My daughter sent me this product so she could view what was happening in my home (I’m 65 and recently widowed). I managed to install this on my own with the help of customer service. They are not open 24/7 but the representative from Hoop walked me through the set-up process. It was far less complicated than I expected. My daughter can now check-in on me whenever she likes.

Little camera seems to work well. When I was setting it up, I got to a great help section in the app that had a lot of troubleshooting articles. Now that it set up, I can’t find the help section anymore. I had to e-mail customer service instead.

For such a tiny little device, this camera packs a lot of power. I got the basic model and I haven’t had time to play with it very long, but from what I’ve done so far, I’ve put together a list of pros and cons:
    Pros:
    • Appearance – sleek and small, doesn’t take up a lot of room, isn’t very noticeable
    • Design – Base attaches magnetically and lets you tilt the camera so you can set it up to capture just about any angle
    • Real time viewing – You can watch what’s going on in real time
    • Motion detection – Sends notifications and saves images when the camera detects motion
    • Customize notifications – If you’re getting too many notifications, you can change the settings
    • Record– You can hit record to save what the camera is capturing to an album in the app
    • Speak – You can speak through the camera, which is great if you’re in another room. (I haven’t tried it when I’m out of the house but I think you should be able to speak through it even when you’re not home
    Cons:
    • Noticeable enough that you probably couldn’t hide it as a nanny cam, but you could if you were creative with it.
    • Wire is a little thin—my cat chewed through it within 5 minutes. But I used the wire from my Echo, and it worked fine
    • Speaker setting has feedback – When I click to speak through the camera, it sound like it’s picking up voices/feedback from another house. Not sure if that’s really what is happening or it just has a sensitive audio pickup and is getting static from the house. * this usually only happens when you are within like 20 30 ft from camera and it picks up the back and forth
In conclusion, it can do a lot

This camera is the bomb. It’s set up to view my kid’s play room. Great for checking on the family while I am working remotely.

The instructions are pretty simple. I connected Hoop to a power outlet, waited for the LED light to flash (it’s small and in the back where you plug the power cord into the camera). I then pressed the setup button and got a voice response.
Added the camera to the Hoop app in my phone, and came across a hurdle when trying to connect it to my Wi-Fi. Useful information: At the point where you scan the QR code, if it won’t connect to your network, it might give you a voice response that says, “Can’t find network name.” I knew I had typed the name in correctly, so I tried it again a few times. It turns out I was entering the wrong password. Make sure you have your Wi-Fi password and network name correct, and then setup is a cinch.
After that, it was easy to finish setting up the camera, and now I have a live feed of my living room!
